IndieFilmNet announces an exclusive deal with Maestro Enrico Castiglione adding three acclaimed
operas from Teatro Antico di Taormina to their CINEMA MEETS OPERA series. The operas are three of the most famous masterpieces in the opera cannon: Verdi’sAida, Puccini’s Turandot and Tosca. The productions are staged at the heart of the little southern Italian town of Taormina, on the top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean in a beautiful Greek theatre built in the 7th century BC. Every summer, since 1954, the theatre comes to life with an intense programme of theatre, dance, cinema and music, including the masterpieces of opera. TURANDOT, hailed as “Spectacular! Spine-tingling!” by The Observer, stars the stunning, cult Italian soprano Francesca Patanè in the title role, supported by a cast of international stars. Turandot is masterfully directed by Enrico Castiglione with exotic costumes by Sonia Cammarata. Teatro Vittorio Emanuele Synphonic Orchestra is conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo. The role of TOSCA seems made for the celebrated, Vienna-born soprano Martina Serafin. Her fiery passion is matched by Marcello Giordani’s standout performance as Vittoria and the great baritone Renato Bruson’s extraordinary Scarpia, crushed between relentless passion for Tosca and the demands of political duty. Serafin and Bruson achieve moments of unforgettable tension. Enrico Castiglione has directed the work with tremendous originality and dramatic power, heightening a traditional setting with a modern and cinematic style. Eugene Kohn conducts. This powerful Tosca is an operatic event played out against the backdrop of Sicily’s remarkable, 7th century BC Greek theatre. Hugely popular, AIDA continues to be one of the most popular operas and is one of the great successes of Teatro Antico in Taormina. Directed by Maestro Enrico Castiglione and starring Belgian soprano Isabelle Kabatu, Aida has a terrific cast including Salvatore Licitra, Juan Pons, Rossana Rinaldi, Chistopher Stamboglis, Antonio De’ Gobbi and Raffaella Fraioli. Orchestra National Conservatory of Music conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo, exquisite new costumes by Sonia Cammarata. Taormina’s remarkable Ancient Theatre transforms into Egyptian palm groves on the banks of the Nile and the great pyramid. Precious, beautiful, spectacular!
